PAUL FLORES ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF KRISTIN SMART NEARLY 25 YEARS AFTER HER DISAPPEARANCE

Breaking News

I, along with two editors at Mustang News, were assigned to cover a press conference about updates in a local and ongoing disappearance case. In the last 25 years, the story of Kristen Smart and the Smart family’s fight for justice has made national headlines. From a local perspective and as a woman at Cal Poly, the opportunity to tell this news was a humbling experience that crafted my journalistic ambitions.

SAN LUIS OBISPO TRANSIT DRIVER SHORTAGE AFFECTS CAL POLY STUDENTS AND THE GREATER COMMUNITY

Spot story

The assignment for this story began with basic changes to local bus routes. However, through interviews, the community consequences of the changing routes paved the way for the developing story. I opted to speak with students at an on-campus bus stop to learn more about their experience with these changes. I additionally found a bus driver to speak with in between a few of his stops. This story was sourced and written within one day and was featured in a print edition of Mustang News.
