A YEAR WITH THE
WHISKEY & WORK
PODCAST

My role as a podcast management intern

Kelsey Murphy, host of Whiskey and Work, sits down with an array of guests to talk about business, coaching, parenting and everything in between. Since June 2021, I have worked along Kelsey and her team as the podcast management intern.

In this role I have strengthened my abilities in copy writing with an emphasis in conversational tone, developed skills for platforms such as Libsyn (where podcasts are uploaded) and gained an inside perspective of the podcast industry.

About three-fourths of the way into this internship, I want to share some of the work I have done with this podcast and the 20+ episodes I have helped produce!

Each episode begins with an alert from Trello. From there I listen to the edited version of the podcast, taking note of timestamps that include quotes that can later be used for marketing material. During this time I keep some rough bullet points going to serve as a guide when drafting show notes. To the right is what that looks like from the February 15, 2022 episode.

After listening to the episode, I draft the show notes and list out quotes I found notable during the episode. Creating a clean copy of show notes, I then move over to Libsyn to upload the episode to streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcasts, add in show notes and schedule the episode for release.

Then it's over to Canva to create the marketing material for that episode that is used for both Kelsey’s social media platforms and her guests’. In this role, I developed the marketing sheet to serve as an organized template for Whiskey and Work, as well as for guests. From here I can easily re-create this same form with each new episode. Once the episode is released on Tuesday, I post the “story frames” to Murphy’s Instagram.

The episode, marketing material and show notes are then taken over to Squarespace, where a new page is created for the episode. After the episode is released on Tuesday morning, I publish the episode on the website to allow for website users and fans of the podcast to navigate the content in a web-based format. This is an example of a page I created for an episode released in February.

Additional website pages I have made this year include:

On the left are the episodes that have been released just three months into the new year. Each of these episodes represents the start of a Trello alert, to creating copy for show notes, to uploading it to Libsyn all the way to the episode existing as a piece of media in the creative realm.

Since June 2021, I have been part of over 20 podcast episodes. With the start of the new year, I have been assigned a greater role to ensure social media posts on the day of episode release. Stories are added to Kelsey Murphy’s Instagram the morning of a new episode airs.
